It is good that at least the SF/F community is talking more about Islamophobia. I'm not sure how much this controversy made it out into the wider interwebs - though when I googled for that MoonFail overview post, a quick glance over the results showed several right-wing sites' responses full of smugness/panic, that asshat north Texas journalist's very pompous interview with Moon, and a conservative Israeli site being equally pompous and alarmist.
A lot of the discussion does focus on the US, including my own post; I focus on the US because it's what I know best and also because dammit, aren't we supposed to be really into the whole religious freedom thing? Don't we tend to talk a lot of smack about how awesome we are on this issue? Such hypocrisy. It made me happy to see, in several of the post-Rally to Restore Sanity photo roundups, several shots of US Muslims with signs saying things like, "Where are the moderate Muslims? Here are some!" I like that people looking through those pictures will see their faces, see those folks out there engaging in public life - you know, just as though they were people.
